Sketch Card: Supergirl

I’ve been getting into drawing sketch cards using Copic and Pigma Micron markers. These cards have been posted on my Facebook Fan Page and Twitpic accounts. Now I will start to post them here. I have about a dozen previously drawn cards to post here and new ones will be posted as well.

First up: Supergirl.

When I first started reading comics, Crisis on Infinite Earths was going down. I had gotten some random issues of that series from a friend in High School. So my first real exposure to Supergirl in the comics was the Death of Supegirl in Crisi on Infinite Earths #7. I kind of got a little confused as they brought her bcak in different ways. But I really liked Peter David’s take on her through the late 1990’s-early 2000’s. And the newest Supergirl series has some great stuff going on as well.

I’ll be at the Santa Ana Art Walk Sat. Feb 19th

If you live in or will be in the Southern CA area, I’ll be featured at James Shilaimon’s studio for the Santa Ana Art Walk at the Santiago Art District on Saturday, Feb 19th. The Art Walk is from 7-10pm. I’ll be there showcasing some of my original art, comic book art, and have a couple of prints for sale (Young Justice, Spider-Man). I may have some of my sketchbooks for sale there as well.

James Shilaimon is a friend of mine and an incredible artist. He is kind enough to showcase my art in his studio. Check out his amazing work!

There are a number of different studios featuring a wide variety of artists. I look forward to seeing everyone and hanging out for the evening.

ESPN Sunday NFL Countdown, Lance Briggs, X-Men

Just recently Marvel contacted me to draw Chicago Bears’ linebacker, Lance Briggs, as a composite X-Man. Lance is a huge comic fan and ESPN Sunday NFL Countdown did an interview with Briggs about his passion for comics on Dec 13, 2010. My art, as well as me drawing it, is featured in the video on the ESPN website.

This is the original black and white line art. See the color art, by John Rauch, on my DeviantArt page or Facebook Fan page.

Spider-Man Meets Mayor Mike Bloomberg

Peter Parker meets Mayor BloombergI recently drew a Spider-Man story¬† where an unemployed Peter Parker meets New York City mayor, Mike Bloomberg. It is a special 8 page comic promoting New York’s public employment services.

The story is available for FREE in the Wednesday, November 17 edition of the Daily News, can also be downloaded onto your iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad using the Marvel App.

Brightest Day!

Hal.Jordan.10-09.colors.tn

With that headline and this pic of Hal Jordan (done in COPIC and PigmaMicron markers), you’d think I was talking about DC Comics’ latest Green Lantern story arc affecting multiple corners if the DC Universe.

Actually, I am referring to the reacquisition of my “toddnauck.com” domain name. A few years ago my dot com domain name was in the process of switching hosting servers. A slight miscommunication during host transfer left my domain name out in the open and a squatter jumped on it. It had become a link hub to all kinds of anime including some stuff I wouldn’t want my younger fans to be directed to. We began the process of getting my domain back, but someone else got in there and began to squat as a real estate link hub. So we began the process again. Met with frustration and other responsibilities, I let the squatters squat.

Then recently I visited my old domain name again to see it was back to an anime link hub. So we tried contacting the registrar one more time with the the domain name laws stating that I am the real Todd Nauck and want my domain back. They responded in an appropriate manner and “BOOM!” my official page is now, once again, toddnauck.com!

For the time being I’m keeping the “redirects” active. So if you want to visit wildguard.com or toddnauck.com, you’ll still end up here where I will post art, sketches, upcoming comic book projects, and convention appearances.

My domain name nightmare is over!

New Mutants: Warlock

Warlock.10_09.tn

Killing some time last week, I decided to try drawing Warlock from the New Mutants. I had blogged about this character last Nov in “Query: What’s Black and Yellow and Weird All Over?”.

Warlock is a fun character to draw with how malleable his form is and all the tech and details.

I inked much of this piece with brush and ink. I even cut in some white paint in certain areas. The rest was inked with PigmaMicron markers 005, 01, & 08.

Young Justice: The Kids Are Alright

Young Justice Print 2009

This is a Young Justice print I’ve created and have available at comic conventions.

At the New York Comic Con in 2009, I was getting a lot of commission requests for Impulse and Superboy with news that Bart and Kon were coming back into the DCU.

I figured it would be fun to draw the whole YJ gang since I hadn’t¬† done so since the series ended in 2003.
I love all these characters and drawing the YJ series is definitely a highlight of my career. And YJ fans have been loyal and consistently appreciative even with the book being gone for over 7 years. Thanks to all of you!

Now we have the Young Justice cartoon on the way and more Young Justice trade paperbacks coming form DC soon. This is a  great time to be a YJ fan!

The black and white line art of this piece is featured in my 2010 Todd Nauck sketchbook Vol.1 on sale now. Just click the BUY NOW button at the top of the right side of this page!

Can’t make it to one of my next convention appearances and interested in getting this print? Shoot me an email: mail@wildguard.com
Next convention appearances:

New York Comic Con – October 8-10, 2010

Long Beach Comic Con – October 29-31, 2010

Mid-Ohio Con – Novebmer 6-7, 2010

Disco Days of Dazzler

Dazzler: Disco Costume

I didn’t really discover Dazzler until she joined the X-Men (the Australian Outback X-Men era) and had left her disco days behind her.
I really don’t care for disco.
But Dazzler is one of my favorite X-Men and I thought it would be fun to try drawing her in her original costume.

Drawn with Sharpie, PigmaMicron, and COPIC markers on Bristol board.
